Clinical Pilates

Clinical Pilates is a therapeutic, exercise-based approach led by a licensed physical therapist with extensive, specialized training and licensure in Pilates. It is designed to support injury rehabilitation, pain management, and whole-body movement health. At CBR, clinical Pilates is integrated into personalized physical therapy treatment plans for patients with orthopedic injuries, chronic pain, balance concerns, and pelvic or women’s health conditions.

Clinical Pilates in physical therapy is grounded in evidence-based rehabilitation principles and tailored to each individual’s diagnosis, movement patterns, and functional goals. Sessions may include both Reformer Pilates and Mat Pilates, selected based on your needs, symptoms, and stage of recovery.

  • Pilates performed on a reformer uses adjustable spring resistance to support controlled strengthening, mobility, and alignment
  • Pilates performed on a mat focuses on bodyweight-based exercises to improve core stability, coordination, and movement efficiency.

Benefits of Clinical Pilates:

  • Improves core strength and stability - builds deep trunk and pelvic support to protect the spine and improve movement efficiency.

  • Enhances posture and alignment - addresses muscle imbalances and faulty movement patterns that contribute to pain and injury.

  • Supports injury rehabilitation and prevention - provides controlled, low-impact strengthening that is safe during recovery and effective long-term.

  • Reduces pain and improves mobility - focuses on precision, breath, and control to restore pain-free movement.

  • Improves balance and coordination - enhances neuromuscular control and body awareness for daily activities and sport.

  • Customized to individual needs - exercises are tailored to your injury, goals, and physical limitations.

  • Safe for all ages and fitness levels - appropriate for post-surgical rehab, older adults, prenatal/postpartum individuals, and athletes.

  • Builds strength without excessive joint stress  - ideal for those who need effective training without high-impact or heavy loading.

  • Integrates breath and movement - supports optimal muscle activation, relaxation, and overall movement efficiency.

  • Encourages long-term movement confidence - empowers patients with tools for sustainable strength and lifelong mobility.

Pilates helps bridge the gap between hands-on physical therapy and independent exercise. Call 251-607-6495 or contact The Center for Balance & Rehabilitation to book your appointment today.
